Biography: 
Vasudevanpillai Biju studied chemistry at the University of Kerala and obtained his Ph.D. in 2000 under the guidance of Prof. K. George Thomas. After postdoctoral research in Japan and the US, he was a scientist and a senior scientist in AIST, Japan from 2004 to 2015. In parallel, he was a visiting scientist at the University of Texas Austin, a visiting lecturer at the University of Tokushima, and Kwansei Gakuin University, a PRESTO Researcher at Japan Science and Technology Agency, an adjunct professor at Southern University, and a visiting professor at Nagoya University. Since February 2016, he is a Professor at Hokkaido University. His research interests include luminescent semiconductor nanocrystals and quantum dots, photofunctional molecules, and single-molecule techniques. His research activities are recognized with various awards by Ozaki Foundation (Gen-nai Award), the Japanese Photochemistry Association, the Asian and Oceanian Photochemistry Association, and the Chemical Society of Japan. In 2011 he became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
